Jon Davine, MD, CCFP, FRCP(C) is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences at McMaster University, with a cross appointment in the Department of Family Medicine. His outpatient psychiatry practice focuses on liaising with primary care physicians in the “shared care” model.

For a number of years, he has taught courses in behavioural sciences to family medicine residents and to family doctors in the community. He has lectured nationally and internationally on this topic. He is a past Chair of the Council of Psychiatric Continuing Education (COPCE), which is affiliated with the Canadian Psychiatric Association.

He was made a fellow of the American Psychiatric Association in 2013, and was made a Distinguished Fellow of the Canadian Psychiatric Association in 2014. Currently, he is the Ontario representative for the Standing Committee on Education for the Canadian Psychiatric Association.

He also is the current Treasurer and member of the Executive Committee of the Ontario Psychiatric Association. He has received several educational awards including:

  • Certificate of Merit Award, Canadian Association for Medical Education (CAME), 2013;
  • Outstanding Preceptor Award, Psychiatry, Faculty of Health Sciences, Undergraduate MD Program, McMaster University, 2012, 2010, 2009;
  • Undergraduate Teaching Award, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences, McMaster University, 2012, 2009;
  • Association of Academic Psychiatry, Regional Teacher of the Year Award, 2006;
  • McMaster Psychiatric Residents’ Association–Jack Cleghorn Excellence in Clinical Teaching Award, 1999;
  • PARO–Clinical Teacher’s Travel Award, 1988. 

Harry Kalinsky MD, MSc, FRCP(C) is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at University of British Columbia

Dr. Harry Karlinsky was born in Winnipeg Manitoba and obtained his M.D. from the University of Manitoba, his specialty degree in Psychiatry and Fellowship in Geriatric Psychiatry from the University of Toronto and his Masters in Neuroscience degree from the University of London, England. He is currently a Clinical Professor within UBC’s Department of Psychiatry and the Psychiatric Consultant for WorkSafeBC.

Dr Karlinsky has a long involvement with various professional and public education initiatives, including his role as the founding and ongoing Director of the award-winning Frames of Mind Mental Health Film Series http://www.framesofmind.ca.

Honours include Baycrest Hospital’s Munk Geriatric Award; a Lady Davis Visiting Professor Fellowship, Technion University, Israel; the CPA/COPCE Award for outstanding Continuing Medical Education (CME) Activity within Canada; the Lil Hewton Bursary Award to conduct archival research related to the history of psychiatry, and the inaugural UBC Faculty of Medicine Innovation in CME award.

Dr Karlinsky is also an alumnus of Simon Fraser University’s The Writer’s Studio. His first novel, The Evolution of Inanimate Objects was longlisted for the Wellcome Trust Book Prize. His most recent novel is titled The Stonehenge Letters, and in a roundabout way, addresses why Sigmund Freud failed to win a Nobel Prize.
